Question
1: How old does our dog have to be before we can take it camping?
Answer: When you've completed a basic group obedience class and have gone into a class
that teaches off-lead work, you can start thinking about camping with your dog. You should
have total voice control of your pet. The dog should come when you call it, even when
there are many distractions. It should be at ease around other dogs and people.
Question 2: Will we need a
crate in camp?
Answer: Yes, in case there are wild animals or just other dogs that roam through campsites
during the night.
Question
3: Can our dog travel in a camper trailer while we're pulling it?
Answer: Only if it is in a crate and if it is not against the law in your state. A loose
dog can be injured if you are in an accident or by falling objects. Bring the same travel
aids for trailer travel as for travel in a car.
Question
4: Were going to drive and take our dog on vacation where well be staying with
friends for several days. Any tips?
Answer: You must take a carrier with you. The crate is your dogs home away from
home. Before you leave, call your vet and ask him or her to recommend a vet in the town
where youll be staying.
